Be part of a journey of a business person exploring the world of artificial intelligence and new tech - and be inspired to start your own path to exploration.
This blog shares the story of a business professional, who decided to take steps towards entering the world of artificial intelligence.
So how it all began? I have always been extremely interested in what can be achieved by using the right technologies. However, as I decided to get both my university degrees in the business field, for some time I didn’t even think that a switch to a more technical side would be possible as I had already dedicated so much time for something else than the tech world.
Several years back, my perspective changed. I understood that there are so many opportunities to learn new skills which doesn’t require me to put my career on a pause and I don’t necessarily need to obtain a new university degree to gain knowledge of a new field. At that point, I made a decision to start learning Python, Tableau, SQL and data science in general - without any experience in programming at all.
I’m the kind of person who goes from 0 to 100 when deciding to do something (i.e. not satisfying for average and taking each action maybe even to a bit extreme). And hence I took a goal - I want to become a professional on the topic of artificial intelligence — one of the most complex technical fields out there today. Decided and completed.
Artificial intelligence is a really hot topic. Almost burning at some point.
But over time I realised that when majority of business people refer to artificial intelligence, they don’t really mean AI. A lot of business professionals translate artificial intelligence as any algorithmic automation which simply is not true. However - it proves a fair point. You don’t necessarily need artificial intelligence to make some product, service or tool better. Any kind of automation works, and actually the simpler the better. Only issue is that people don’t tend to value technologies without fancy terms as much as artificial intelligence or blockchain, even though that in 99% cases those ‘non-innovative’ tools are the solutions to their problems.
The list of technologies that you could benefit from goes way beyond AI. And the value is likely way closer than you can even think of — even starting from the simplest Google Sheets. You possibly don’t even imagine what this tool is capable of if used right, and how this well-known tool can boost your efficiency easily 5x — and hint: it can seem like a “rocket science” even for data scientists if executed well.
And this whole world is quite unexplored to most of the business professionals. Sad? But it doesn’t have to be.
This blog is dedicated to business people, who would like to make a switch towards more data-driven, technical or technology-enhanced careers or would like to boost your existing business roles to a whole new level. In this blog I’m going to share my learnings and thoughts about how automation can help to boost efficiency of your business making, daily work and give more time for things that actually drive value — by eliminating tasks that can easily be done through automation.
I hope that you will get inspiration to start your journey in the field of automation by following along mine and getting to know all the most exciting discoveries, best tools and largest bottlenecks I’ve noted while entering to this incredible world - and all this from a perspective of a business person.
This is the story of “University of Mariel: Case of Maris” - a learning framework where you commit to learning 30 minutes per each day - whole a whole year. Examples for course pack and learning framework template are included!
Programming is a skill that everybody recognises to be valuable in the modern world. The requirement for being able to write code using the programming language Python has become more and more popular in job advertisements and it has spread way out of the engineering field. In this post, I’m going to focus on explaining why I think that every person should learn Python — even without having any plans to enter the tech world.
The business perspective of artificial intelligence might be different from what engineers think of. Is it machine learning or artificial intelligence? Well, both terms are correct if used wisely - it’s only a matter of context.
We live in a world in which the photos and videos can’t be believed anymore. We have ‘deepfake’, paid advertisements and search engines influenced by the marketing professionals. It seems our own judgment and continuous assessment on the information has never been so necessary as it is today.
Machine learning can be used in many areas and scaling your business operations can be one of them. In this post, I hope to fuel your mind a bit to think about how to approach different business problems and share my experience from a hackathon, how we applied ML to scale our product.
Innovation takes courage and creativity. But the word itself - innovation, is used way too often and mostly in situations when it shouldn’t be used. Are the startups and corporates fit enough to win the battle of AI?
With so much happening in the field of AI, it can be quite overwhelming for a non-technical person to actually start off with the dedicated learning path. To make it a bit easier, I have accumulated some of my top learning recommendations together with direct links to the sources.
Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool in which machines learn to solve problems in a way how humans would. However, the skills to create such solutions are still quite rare in the market and very expensive.
